We made the switch from alamedanet to comcast a few months ago. We have been pretty happy with comcast so far. It definately seems more reliable. I always appreciated the customer service at alamedanet so we will see if comcast is as service friendly.

I hope…that all people from Alameda will band together and not do business with a poor business model company. I will probably go with AT&T…unless people have other suggestions…

I can’t imagine doing business with Comcast. I don’t think they have changed their business model since years ago, when you could not get a tech when you needed one, or an answer from anyone about a problem. Today, they have the wonderful machine that you need to talk into. Their billing dept was bad before, and they are still jerks. I switched from AP&T too, as soon as I got the word that they were bought out by Comcast, but I went to AT&T. I now have Dish network, which is better than AP&T was, by far. I use DSL from AT&T, which is lightning fast, without the problems in and out problems connecting I had with AP&T, and I still have my same low priced phone. I get all three for less that I paid AP&T for internet and cable, and they are not introductory prices. I think Comcast is a ripoff with these.

Good luck. We had Comcast when we were living in an apartment during our remodel (AP&T was not even available in that building). The on demand content was terrific, and a lot of it is “free.” We especially liked the exercise shows (yoga with Rodney Yee, etc.), and there is lots of kids programming. The stuff they charge extra for is actually programming you might want to watch (as opposed to the meager offerings of AP & T). The guy who did the installation was very nice and seemed competent. BUT, when we had problems (and we had MANY with our phone), dealing with Comcast was a nightmare. (example: after several phonecalls to customer service that went nowhere, I finally went into the office in Marina Village. They promised that a supervisor would contact me. When none did, I called and was told that the supervisor didn’t need to contact me because my problem had been fixed. But no one had confirmed this with me, and my phone still didn’t work!) I was hoping that the kinks had been worked out, since we were one of the early phone customers in Alameda, but the previous comment doesn’t encourage my optimism.

We have Comcast and it’s bad. There’s a lot of down time for the telephone, the hi-speed will have days when it’s off-on-off-on, and the HD tv suffers intermittent, inexplicable breakdowns. Here’s hoping that you have better luck.
