Posters are up all over town for Dance for a Cure, a fundraising event to benefit breast cancer research that’s set to take place from 5 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, November 14, at Eagles Hall, 2305 Alameda Avenue.

Starting today, October 1, bidding on auction items that support the worthy cause is taking place on the Internet.

Millie Luz, an Alameda resident and volunteer, knocked on doors all over the Island and in surrounding areas. And she got some outstanding items donated by local merchants, such as the 50 pieces of jewelry given by A Touch of Class Jewelers’ Deborah Porterfield, who’s been a jeweler in Alameda for more than 30 years.

Online auction items supporting the fight against breast cancer include: a five-day/four-night escape to Cancun, Mexico; four passes to Legoland & Sea Life in California; Joe Montana-autographed San Francisco 49ers helmet; two Milgard Ultra series fiberglass windows; Clinton Chiropractic consultation and exam; a perfect pillow from Symmetry Chiropractic; a portrait at Raintree Studios, three months of activities at Oakland Karate & Kickboxing; teeth whitening; a photo of the Beatles on the “Ed Sullivan Show” and … a
Louis Vuitton-Batignolles vertical handbag!

DJs Jose Melendez, Alex Mejia, Trackstar, Deft, Rick Lee, Latin Prince and Chuy Gomez of 106.1 are set to spin at the November 14 event. Tickets are $25-$30. Hope to see you there.
