Local sailboat enthusiasts have been pleased to learn about the re-launching of Summertime Dream, a 26-foot former race-winner that was recently restored in Alameda.

Found on the hard at the Alameda Marina by East Bay resident Scott Owens, the craft was designed by Carl Schumacher, a yacht designer who passed away in 2002, and introduced to the world of sailing in 1979.

Much of the work on the historic craft took place at Svendson’s Boat Works, and lots of Alameda talent went into the boat’s October 2010 re-launch.

This month’s issue of Latitude 38 gives plenty of details on the project and offers a unique look at what it takes to work on boats — and enjoy the fruits of this effort — in and around the Island.
