Alameda Vice Mayor Rob Bonta, who just hosted a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, is being supported in his political efforts with a fund-raiser set for 1 to 3 p.m. today, October 2, at Tucker’s Ice Cream, 1349 Park Street.
Bonta, who is turning 40 on Sunday, October 2, recently announced plans to run for the California State Assembly. He was elected to the Alameda City Council in late 2010.
The Assembly election is set for 2012, when the current representative for the 16th Assembly District (Oakland, Alameda, and San Leandro), Sandre Swanson, will be forced out of office due to term limits.
Alameda Mayor Marie Gilmore is expected to attend this afternoon’s festivities.
Donors are being asked to share $40-$500. (That’s quite a few ice cream cones for some residents).
