On Thursday night, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., Alamedans can dance to Beatles tunes performed by the Sun Kings and several student musicians at the historic Alameda Theatre & Cineplex. The Sun Kings will play music from the album “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s Club Band” and other songs. Tickets are $40-$50. Last year’s event, organizers say, raised about $20,000.
Before the Sun Kings take the stage, DJ Pete Fletcher will spin oldies, the acapella group Talk of the Town will sing some Motown hits, and the troupe Dance 10 will perform a “Hairspray” number for guests. Several local restaurants, vintners and breweries are providing food, wine and beer.
The Alameda Association of Realtors has organized a silent auction, including items like a week’s stay in Maui and a cabin vacation in Lake Tahoe. In addition, there will be a raffle for a scooter from Scooter Importers and a wine collection.
“This year, we are excited to be doing the event at the Alameda Theatre, which is a very centrally located, as well as a beautiful, great venue,” said Vicki Sedlack of the Alameda Education Foundation. “We have set out for this to be a really, really fun party with lots of great food, drinks and dancing — fun.”
