Video: Today’s school budget protests in Alameda

New at 11:10 p.m: Below is Oakland Tribune video of today’s protest and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. If you watch until the end—it’s only two and a half minutes so probably you can hang in there—you get to see the governor say one of the most amusing/perplexing things that’s been coming out of his office lately. He talks about how education in California is currently ‘overfunded.’

Just in: Video of car in Alameda-Oakland Estuary

Indeed, it is not each and every day that a car lands in the Alameda-Oakland Estuary. Here’s some video of the car and the Alameda Avenue homeowner under whose house the car is lodged. (The house is on the Oakland side of the estuary, just east of the Fruitvale Bridge.) My best guess is, come high tide, they’ll tow that car out.

State Superintendent meets with Alameda students

Responding to Wednesday’s student protests over cuts to Alameda schools, State Superintendent of Instruction Jack O’Connell came to Alameda Friday to meet with student leaders and discuss how they can continue advocating for their schools. This Contra Costa Times video features Alameda student leaders Nargis Shaghasi, Kelsey Canalin, Mebrak Kahsai and Ian Merrifield. (And here’s video from Wednesday’s protest.)
