I really shouldn’t be telling you this.
I should keep this information to my self.
But I feel I’m duty-bound as an aPARENTly Speaking blogger to remind parents everywhere that, although Christmas feels really far away, the time to buy tickets for the Niles Canyon Railroad Train of Lights is near.
Visit the NCR Web site for details and a schedule and check back daily to see when tickets go on sale because once they do, they’ll sell out within hours. Price is $30 for reserved seating and $20 for general seating. (It’s a fundraiser for the non-profit railway group.)
If you are lucky enough to get tickets, here are some tips…
Get to the station early to take pictures and to enjoy the amazing sight of the millions of lights that cover this historic train.
Dress warmly. It’s fun to walk through the various cars, but some are outdoors, and it can be chilly this time of year. At night the open air cars offer great views of the train cutting a brilliant swatch through the dark.
Bring a few bucks. Treats and hot cocoa are for sale during the 70-minute ride, which goes from Sunol to Niles and back. Many folks bring snacks and beverages of their own.
Go potty first. There aren’t any bathrooms on the train.
And have your list for Santa ready, the jolly guy usually makes an appearance for the little ones.
