I wish I could remember the old rhymes I was told, but I am still struggling with trying to remember the popular ones when trying to sing to my little ones right now. I change the characters to include my son and daughter, and even with ‘Ba Ba Black Sheep’ we have even changed some parts that has helped my son remember what street he lives on.

My favorite rhyme is one we always did at Halloween in my 4K class and the kids love it. We sang “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” with these words and I used a stuffed spider to do the motions.

“The itsy bitsy spider crawled up on (child’s name) head.
He crawled all around and he made himself a bed.
He crawled on his back and he jumped on to the floor.
And the itsy bitsy spider crawled right out the door.”

The kids love this and my own children do too.

Wow, these rhymes are so cute. Here is one that my mother used to say…

Sleep Tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite but if they do, pick a few and I’ll fry them for you.
