Boy, oh, boy, was the Easter Bunny good to us. In six-year-old Sofia’s basket were four new children’s CDs, including “Special Kind of Day” by Rebecca Frezza & Big Truck; “I’m Growing” by Gunnar Madsen; “Fast & Feisty” by Princess Katie & Racer Steve; and “Here Comes the 123s” by They Might Be Giants.
Sofia, a kindergartener at Belshaw Elementary in Antioch, loves ’em all, but fell extra hard for “Fast & Feisty” and “Here Comes The 123s.” “Fast” is our second Princess Katie & Racer Steve CD, and again is filled with preppy little tunes that don’t talk down (or is that sing down) to young music listeners. In between toe-tapping hits such as “Hey Claire” and “We Dress Ourselves” are four “skits,” a bit of fun storytelling.
From They Might Be Giants, known for their grown-up alt-rock music, comes an a really fun array of arrangements in winning tunes like “Zeroes,” “Pirate Girls Nine” and “Number Two (a nice nod to Leon Redbone here). The bonus to this CD is a companion DVD, which is just as fun to watch.
This is also our second Frezza CD, and it’s also packed with some catchy tunes that parents won’t mind hearing over and over and over … Frezza’s latest offers including “Clack-Ity-Clack” and “Carnival Ride.”
And, although “I’m Growing” isn’t quite as exciting to the grown-ups in Sofia’s house, the kindergartener liked the CD, including “Walkin’ back to Texas” and “Pumpkin Hair.”
If you’re looking to add to the music selection in your little ones’ collection, any of these are winners.
