New York subway (Philadelphia Inquirer, MCT Direct) Parenting forums lit up after New York Sun columnist Lenore Skenazy told the world she’d left her son Izzy, age 9, at Bloomingdale’s in midtown Manhattan with subway fare, a map – so he could navigate the subway and crosstown bus – and $20, telling him she’d see him back home. No cell phone, by the way, just a couple quarters for a pay phone. (Um, they still have those?) After her column, “Here’s Your MetroCard, Kid” ran last week, she made a slew of appearances on the Today show, Fox News, etc. with, she says, a new title: “America’s Worst Mother?” What do you think? Was age 9 too young to navigate Manhattan alone? Click a button or hit “comments” and share your thoughts.
