That’s gifted Bay Area bassoonist Karla Ekholm and French horn player Nicky Roosevelt from the Oakland Symphony’s Five Chair Wind Quintet performing for kids at Richmond’s Martin Luther King Community Center last month - and man, we wish we’d been there because this looks like way too much fun. It also looks like a primo candidate for a new caption, no? Click “comments” to add yours, and we’ll send the cleverest caption-writer a couple of hot-off-the-press children’s books.
And now for last week’s winner…

“That’s the last time I trust my 3yo son to pick my caddy.” - Congrats, Rachelle!

Kids today are over-stimulated with video games, sports, and high action activities. In an attempt to encourage today’s kids to participate in music in school, the Oakland Chamber Orchestra created a new musical style…..Musikarate. A combination of Music and Martial Arts, and today the competition is Woodwinds VS Brass.

The great musical face-off was begining when a loud toot was heard and it was not from the horn.

The contest for who could hold a note the longest had begun and it would not end well. They both turned red, passed out and fell over. Surprisingly enough it was at the same moment, so after a little oxygen they tried again, and again, and again. They are still at it! Who said going out for band was safe!
