SLIP n Slide Giveaway

Slip 'N SlideThis weekend’s high temp blast got us thinking about the scorching days of summer, and our favorite ways to stay cool. Now that we’re all grown-up, it’s probably via an icy margarita or those awesome shaken iced tea lemonades at Starbucks (mmmm, get the Passion iced tea and tell them to use the orange syrup to sweeten it). But when we were kids, we cooled down by running through the sprinklers, eating soft-serve ice cream from Frosty’s, and, of course, slithering down a Slip ‘n Slide. And thanks to our buddies at Wham-O, that’s what we’re giving away this week- a MegaShark Slip ‘n Slide. And all you have to do (Susan already knows this because she won last week’s contest!) is click “comments” and regale us with tales of your favorite childhood, get-cool, summer activity. We’ll draw a winner’s name Sunday night.

I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. The cement on the sidewalk was always hot in the summer, yet we always managed to draw a hopscotch board and jump and hop in the afternoon heat. Another popular game was red light, green light. In the afternoon, the ice cream truck came down our block. We all ran with our money to get red, white and blue rocket ice.

I never had a Splish Splash because my Mom was too nervous and didn’t want us to knock our teeth out when we went to slide. I haven’t bought one for our kids because I have become my Mom and I don’t want any of the kids teeth to come out! So if I won, I would play on it when they were in school. :) If it is safe, they can play on it when they come home.

  2. Cathy Says:

We loved the sprinklers. That was our main source of summer refreshment.

We lived a block away from a lake so we always would walk down to the lake to swim for a little bit almost everyday. We loved it.

  5. Kat Bryan Says:

When I was little we lived in a house with no running water but we had a good well. There were 4 of us kids at that time and when it got hot we knew how to cool off. We would pump buckets of water and then let it actually warm up a little (well water is COLD) and then we’d dip plastic glasses in the buckets and have water fights. We had a blast!

    Thanks for having the contest.

we had a real slip and slide and them my dad decided he could make a better one. He cut up a an old water bed and used the strips on a levee in our backyard. He placed it next to the fence (the rest of the levee was raised garden beds). It was so much fun but you had to be careful. If you went to far to the left you got splinters from the fence (sometime in your behind) and if you went to far to the right you hit a tree stump at the bottom. We played so much that we flooded our neighbor’s yard along with ours (my dad set up a pump from the river for the water instead of the hose). Eventually my dad and the neighbor dug up the yard and put in a french drain for all of the water :) Wow that was fun times!!

  7. Kari Follett Says:

We used to have a Slip and Slide when I was younger- we had SO much fun with it. We had it set up on a hill so we went really fast- it just kind of hurt a little when you went off of the end at the bottom!

Of course the one we had was just a plain one and not a cool shark one! My boys would absolutely love this!

  10. Kim Says:

We had a slip-n-slide when I was a kid, and it was New! and Exciting! We’d set up plastic stuff at the end to knock over like we were bowling. Or two of us would slide at the same time and try to throw the other one off. Good times…

  11. Laura Says:

Oh my gosh! No joke- our favorite summertime, get-cool activity was our slip n’ slide!! Of course, it was just a plain yellow strip, which usually broke after a couple months and my mom would tape up the torn sections so the water still flowed through the entire tube on the side, but that’s because we loved it so much and used it A LOT. What a cool, new, fantastic design!

  12. Michelle Simons Says:

I remember eating alot of them homemade snowcones when I was a kid. I had a little man that you added ice cubes and turn the crank and it would come out like a slurpee. you added syrup to it and it kept us cool on hot days. of course i would go down to the river and and sit in it by the shore. we had to watch out for crabs when sitting cause they would bite our butts.

  13. Ann Babenco Says:

We had a pool in our yard growing up…and a rope swing that was so high up you swung out over the tops of the trees…
I know my daugther would love this shark slip and slide…she’s been begging for one!

  14. Melissa Waters Says:

My favorite childhood memory was playing in my little tiny blow up pool with my dad on one of his rare days off! It was such a funny site as my dad is a rather large man and my pool was very small. Looks like David and Goliath.
Thanks for doing this my girls have wanted one for a while.

  17. trisha Says:

When I was a kid, my favorite thing was actually hanging out with my grandmother. I spent a lot of summers at her house and I didnt realize it then, but it turned it into an awesome relationship with her as an adult. I love my grandmother more then anythng and I often thing its because of those homemade cookies, staying up late, watching movies we did together as a kid.

  18. claire Says:

My friends and I used to love to put our sprinklers under our trampoline and then jump as the water squirted at up at us. We did that for hours and hours every day in the summertime. I also remember playing kick-the-can in the summer evenings when the weather started cooling down a bit. Childhood was so much fun!

  19. michelle rosborough Says:

I used to play with this whenever it was hot outside.

  20. Karen R Says:

My sisters and I had a pool. It was about a foot deep. We also liked to spray each other with the garden hose. When the ice cream man came by, we ran to get Drumsticks. Slip ‘n slides hadn’t been invented.

  21. Katie Says:

When we were little my dad and one of his friends dug a big hole on their property and then we put plastic down and filled the hole with water. We then slid across it into the hole so a homemade slip n slide. Very fun and a great way to cool off.

  22. aimee Says:

We loved our slip and slide. We had a wonderful hill that got used so much it had no grass by the end of August!

  23. Shilo Beedy Says:

My family would get out the water balloons and chase each other around. Other days we would go to get ice cream at our favorite place. I always ended up getting a hot fudge sundae!

  24. Bebemiqui Says:

We would play “Lifeguard” on the Slip n slide which meant you played dead in the cool spray until someone dragged you off.

A favorite is definitely running under/around the sprinkler! SOO fun. :) And if you put the sprinkler under a trampoline and jump on it that is loads of fun too!

  29. Cindi Says:

Hello, What a fun summer giveaway! I especially like the shark. Believe or not, if we had a lot of rainfall in the summer, the neighborhood kids and I would sit/swim in large yard puddles. We also waited to hear the bell of the ice cream man! Of course, we swam in lakes and different town’s pools! Thanks for a delightful contest!

  30. Mama Zen Says:

I went to the pool every time it was open when I was a kid!

  31. misty wright Says:

We didn’t have much money growing up, so my sister and I would wade in the creek beside our house. Or take turn spraying each other with the water hose when my parents weren’t looking. Sometimes, I’d just the fill the tub up and pretend it was my pool. lol. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

  32. Noreen Says:

When I was ten (I just had a birthday so I claimed to my siblings it was mine) my dad got a hot tub (well someone gave it to him). The wooden type that was popular 20 years ago. It was expensive to heat up so usually it was ice cold, it was under a deck and rarely got any sun. We used to call it an ice tub and play in it everyday.

  33. Colleen Says:

I always wanted a slip n slide. Never got one. I did have a plastic wading pool that looked like a turtle and had a little slide. I spent hours playing in that thing. My mom would sit in the shade and read a book while she watched me. Now that I think about it, it was probably just a way for her to get some quiet time.

  34. Michele Says:

At home it was running through the sprinkler, or if we were lucky, going to the neighbor’s backyard pook. And then drinks in those mugs you would freeze and then stir the drink so it got all slushy.

  35. Belinda A. Says:

I grew up in Africa, we didn’t have a pool, but my parents bought us a yellow slip ‘n slide one Christmas (it’s stinking hot over there in December) and we thought it was the greatest thing ever. We set it up on a downhill slope in the garden and that’s where we spent the day!

Check out the Wham-O EZ Spin is a revolutionary Foam Frisbee® Disc being referred to online as the best recreational disc available today. After flying one of these multi-feature toys, it is “EZ” to see why.

Wham-O, who originally created the Frisbee® disc, went back to the drawing board and created the perfect mix of fun and sport with this new disc product. The EZ Spin disc is a high performance disc made from amazing waterproof foam material that can be used at the beach/pool or in a disc sport (Ultimate, Disc Golf, Freestyle) including Disc Tag! Who would have thought you can play Disc Tag? FYI, it’s not easy to out-run this foam disc! Players will appreciate the foam material and high performance flight.

The EZ Spin, which comes in yellow or red, is EZ to catch, grip and throw all day with the kids and is very EZ on the hands! The waterproof soft foam (advanced closed cell material) makes this disc absolutely perfect for the beach/pool. The special blue dual spin plastic center feature of the EZ Spin disc is for comfortable finger placement on the disc that allows everyone the EZ way to spin the disc right side or upside down on a finger (almost addictive) – just like a Freestyle pro!

In the high speed game of Ultimate the EZ Spin became the preferred disc for our game as a player is not afraid to launch the disc at high speeds to a team mate because it is a foam disc! The Disc Golf “inside word” is the EZ Spin is a secret weapon for anyone’s Disc Golf bag as I found when this disc hits the hole (the chains) it immediately drops into the basket.

Disc beginners to sports enthusiasts will all agree that the EZ Spin disc is a revolutionary disc and certainly the best recreational disc available today!
