OMG. I feel the opposite. We love Junie B. in our house. At this point in my daughter's reading career, it's much more important for her to connect with real-life characters, and I love how real this character is..how imperfect she is, along with the age-appropriate depiction of how she speaks.

Kids will learn all the grammar rules in due time. At this age they need just to learn to love reading and to see themselves depicted realistically, not as some cardboard cut-out Dick and Jane freaks.

I just couldn't pass up the faux pas of the last post.

Seems strange to criticize GRAMMAR by mis-spelling the word itself.

GRAMMAR not grammer.

I think Junie B Jones books are terrible. They are the only series of books I forbid my daughters to read. Junie B is a mean, jealous, spiteful, girl with terrible grammer. Why would I want my daughters to learn from her? Kids should not read books with poor grammer when they are trying to learn proper grammer.

I truly have to say my childhood hero (or maybe I should say anti-hero) is Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout, a character from a Shel Silverstein poem in "A Light in the Attic".

Why do I choose Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout, who would not take the garbage out? Because Mr. Shel Silverstein told me to remember her.

By the time she decided to take the mountains and mountains of garbage out, it was too late...because as Shel Silverstein said...

"The garbage reached across the state,
From New York to the Golden Gate.
And there, in the garbage she did hate,
Poor Sarah met an awful fate,
That I cannot now relate
Because the hour is much too late.
But children, remember Sarah Stout
And always take the garbage out!"
