Nothing dresses up a Halloween party like a big punch bowl full of slimy green stuff! If you’re looking for libations for tonight’s trick-or-treat shindig, we’ve got several possibilities for you – frothy concoctions to drink and creepy decorating ideas for your glassware. You’re looking at Slimy Lime Fruit Punch, but we’ve got a bloody Witch’s Potion and a green Witch’s Brew for you too. Let the haunting begin…
Photographer and Country Home style editor Matthew Mead says his Witch’s Brew has such a “wonderfully evil tint,” you’ll want to serve it in a clear punch bowl: Mix 1 well-chilled 64-ounce bottle of white cranberry juice with 2 liters of ginger ale, 1 liter of orange-flavored seltzer and 3-5 drops of green food coloring.
The “Ghostly Good Time” handbook’s version mixes 8 cups of ice with 1 liter of lemon-lime soda and 1 quart of lemonade. Stir to blend. Then gently pour 1 cup of pomegranate juice into the top of your pitcher or punch bowl, and squeeze some red decorating gel onto the lip of the bowl and glasses so it oozes down creepily. Brrrr.
SLIMY LIME FRUIT PUNCH
That frothy green mixture pictured above is part of the American Association of Orthodontists’ braces-friendly menu we mentioned yesterday. Here, they drip the red decorating gel down the inside of 12 small, clear glasses and let them sit 10 minutes or so to dry. For the punch, combine powdered lemonade mix (enough to make 2 quarts) with 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon meringue powder in a large punch bowl. Whisking briskly, add 2 liters of seltzer water, followed by 10 drops green food coloring and 4 drops yellow food coloring. Add a peeled and sliced orange, a sliced lime and 1 pint raspberries for color. Cackle maniacally and serve.
