Who can forget the charming tales of Laura Ingalls and her adventures on the prairie, the banks of Plum Creek and assorted other locales? We loved, loved, loved the books – and had mixed feelings about the pretty universally beloved “Little House” TV series. Laura, you see, was supposed to look like us! But this week we’re giving away a pair of “Little House” DVDs – “The Girls of Little House on the Prairie: Prairie Friends” and “Country School.” And all you have to do win them is click “comments” and tell us, what were your favorite childhood books? Were you a Laura Ingalls fan? A Caddie Woodlawn buff? (This contest is now closed — congrats, Betty! Click here for the latest contest.)

I loved the “Little House on the Prarie” books. I can remember the Christmas my grandmother gave me the set. I also liked to read Nancy Drew mysteries. I walked to the public library and borrowed several at a time.

I, too, was a Nancy Drew fan. Her series of books was suggested by my grandmother and I’m pretty sure I read them all. I also loved anything about horses when I was younger.

My favorite books were The Chronicles of Narnia and the Little House On The Prarie series. In fact I still have my original boxed sets. I live in central Ca and was able to watch one of the episodes of the Little House TV series being filmed (they used to film some of them in the foothills above Sonora).

Nancy Drew, Trixie Beldon, The Ghost of Dibble Hollow, Eight Cousins, etc….I remember Caddie Woodlawn being read out loud by one of the teachers—at least some of it anyway. But can’t remember how old I was at the time! It was a long time ago.
