Charming. You know those safety stair gates you put at the top of your stairs, then totally relax because your toddler can’t go tumbling? And even when you see your tot gripping the bars and madly shaking them, you don’t worry too much? Yeah. Start worrying. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Dorel just recalled 100,000 of these Safety 1st SmartLight Stair Gates (model #42111) by Dorel (pictured at left) because the hinges that hold it in place can break. No injuries reported so far, thank heavens. If you’ve got one of these things, call 1-866-690-2540, or fill out Dorel’s online order form or e-mail them at Smartlightgate@djgusa.com to obtain a free repair kit.

This is why it is important that the stair gates are JPMA certfied and also made of good quality. The above safety gates were JPMA certified and still failed.

I agree about the JPMA certification.
