LAND of the Lost

Based on the old 1970s TV show, about a family zapped into a parallel universe, the new PG-13 rated “Land of the Lost” – which opens Friday – stars Will Ferrell as a paleontologist pulled into a space-time warp. Along for the ride: his adorable research assistant – Anna Friel of “Pushing Daisies” fame – and what IMDB calls “a redneck survivalist,” so we were expecting to see Jeff Foxworthy in camo. But no. This guy’s played by Danny McBride from “Superbad,” “Pineapple Express” and “Tropic Thunder.” So we’re guessing this movie is going to be substantially edgier than the old TV show. The trailer (which is posted after the jump) looks to have some dinosaur action, slapstick comedy and the potty-mouth stuff that nets you a PG-13 rating. And the early reviews are not looking too promising. What do you think? Are you going to go?

Heck no! This would be a challenge to follow the original spirit of the TV show, but as a camp comedy target it is shooting fish in a barrel.
