Jousting, Mayhem & More: Fremontâ€™s Historic Ardenwood Farm hosts a Shakespeare Festival and Renaissance Faire this weekend, complete with lance-splitting jousting action from the Knights of Mayhem. Itâ€™s an English country fair, 16th century style, with galloping steeds, peasants and courtiers, and plenty of family fun. The Faire runs 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 12, 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Sept. 13. $8-$18.
A Cheetah Flick: Berkeley’s Elmwood Rialto family film matinees continue this weekend with â€śDuma,â€ť the tale of an orphaned cheetah and the boy who loves him. Noon, Sept. 12-13. Tickets are $4 and proceeds benefit four Berkeley school PTAs.
A is for Apple: Haywardâ€™s Garin Park hosts its annual Apple Festival at noon Saturday. Make your own ice cream, press your own apple cider and enjoy live music, crafts and old-fashioned family fun. Free.
The Science of Baseball: The Exploratorium is exploring the science behind baseball at San Franciscoâ€™s AT&T Park on Saturday before and during the Giants vs. Dodgers game. Join the Exploratorium staff in the Community Clubhouse behind home plate for hands-on activities and exhibits.
Ballads & Banjos: Berkeley hosts the Old Time Music Convention this week with live music, flatfoot dancers, string bands and more. Saturdayâ€™s activities include a free family concert at the Berkeley Main Library featuring Professor Banjo, and a youth showcase at Civic Center Park. Sundayâ€™s lineup includes a family dance at Ashkenaz from 3-4:30 p.m. $4-$6.
