Paddle a Dragon: The dragons come out this weekend at the annual San Francisco International Dragon Boat Festival on Treasure Island. Watch the races, check out the Children’s Dragon Land and enjoy Taiko drumming, live music and entertainment, and tasty food. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; free admission.
Suddenly Sendak: Enjoy the artistry of Maurice Sendak — and a few wild things too — at San Francisco’s Contemporary Jewish Museum’s “There’s a Mystery There: Sendak on Sendak” exhibit. Open daily, except Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets $10, kids free.
Mine, All Mine: Antioch’s Black Diamond Mines is hosting an open house from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at its Hazel-Atlas Mine underground museum. Explore the old mining tunnels, check out the vintage equipment and enjoy the beautiful surroundings too. Kids must be age 7 or older.
Chocolate & Movies: Enjoy “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” plus cooked to order s‘mores, hot chocolate and caramel corn this Friday when Emeryville’s Charles Chocolates hosts a family movie screening at 8:30 p.m. Free, but rsvp to guarantee admission.
Go Lunar: Got a space fanatic? Then you’ll want to hit San Francisco’s Exploratorium this Sunday at 2 p.m. for a talk on NASA’s moon mission by space historian Andrew Chaikin. Chaikin will talk about the past, present and future of lunar exploration and offer a virtual tour of the moon’s surface. Free with museum admission.
