Pa-Rum-Pum-Pum-Pum: San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum hosts its annual New Year’s Mochi Pounding Ceremony Jan. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Samsung Hall. Pound sweet rice cakes, and enjoy live music and dance from 1 to 4 p.m.

Groove with Grover: The Elmwood Rialto’s family movie matinee series continues this weekend with noon shows of “The Muppet Movie” for $4, a benefit for Berkeley PTA groups.

Green Space: The Chabot Space & Science Center hosts a “Kids Go Green” day Jan. 9 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dabble in hands-on, eco-activities, fill out an exploration passport and win a prize. Free with museum admission.

All Aboard: There’s still time to check out the European train exhibit at Danville’s Blackhawk Automotive Museum. The exhibit of HO scale model trains closes Jan. 10. Plus, who can resist all those cool cars? Free with museum admission.
