I think that getting kids to play outside is harder as they get older, so I have encouraged my girls by planning life with the outdoors included. We do many things such as taking walks, a yearly family camp out, each B-day & Christmas we try to include some kind of sporting toy such as jump ropes or roller blades, and we also made our backyard as adventurous as possible with a wonderful vegetable garden, trees, a swing set and a little fort we built right onto the house (we have a patio home)! I don't think I can always assume that my girls are going to want to be outside, especially with friends, unless we parents encourage it by making it an environment that allows for it.

My girls always loved being outside. We moved to be two doors down from an open space and to have a yard they could play in. If the sun is out, they are generally out there too. There are several reasons we don't let our 4 and 2 year olds watch tv - one of which is to encouraging them to go outside. (Frankly, I rarely watch it either and don't miss it at all!) I will check out the book.

My daughters love playing outside. They like riding their bikes, playing with friends and in the winter playing in the snow. Honestly I never have to encourage them to go outside, they always ask to go out.
My 7yo daughter would enjoy reading the book.

The trick on school days to not go in the house. Actually that is their trick to get me to stay outside. As soon as we get home they want to play outside. I only bring them in when it is time for dinner, assuming it is not freezing outside. Weekends I just send my husband outside. Then I tell the girls 'Daddy is outside" and off they go.

What an adorable new American Girl! I like the Outdoor
Adventure aspect. Actually, I don't have to do a lot to
make my kids play outside! Sometimes, I take them to the parks, on the bike trails, zoo, etc.
Thanks, Cindi
