BLAST OFF: Celebrate black history month at Oakland’s Chabot Space & Science Center (pictured above) this Saturday, Feb. 27, when the museum hosts all its usual hands-on demos and activities, plus a live web chat with NASA representatives, discussing the contributions of African-Americans in space and science. Free with museum admission.

LUNAR NEW YEAR: Lion dancers, thundering drums, acrobats and hands-on art activities fill the Chinese Culture Center of San Francisco’s free Spring Festival Celebration on Feb. 27 and 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

ICY HAYWARD: Browse the Hayward Farmers Market, then strap on your ice skates and go swooshing around the rink at City Hall Plaza this Saturday from 1 to 9 p.m. $2 per session, including skates.

BOHEMIAN OPERA: Take 13 different languages, a splash of Bohemian savoir faire and cabaret music and voila, you’ve got the Vagabond Opera — and a perfect outing with musical teens. Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. at Livermore’s Bankhead Theater. Tickets $12-$46.

CRAFTY KIDS: Creative kids, ages 6-12, can make wearable art this Saturday at the San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design’s free MakeArt workshop. The fun runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 27 and includes a tour of the museum’s contemporary jewelry exhibit. Free, but you need to rsvp: 415-773-0303.
