Paulsen Power: Beloved children’s book author Gary Paulsen (pictured), author of “Hatchet,” “Lawn Boy” and its sequel “Lawn Boy returns,” as well as the new Revolutionary War-era “Woods Runner,” is coming to town. Family Fair: First 5 Contra Costa and Pittsburg’s Small World Park hosts its ninth annual Children’s Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 24, complete with arts and crafts, kid-friendly entertainment, a bounce house, rides and more. Hop on the shuttle at Brentwood’s Centro-Mart or Oakland’s O’Hara Park. Free.
Caribbean Fun: The annual CubaCaribe Festival of Dance and Music is always fun, but this year’s lineup, which runs through May 2 and includes live music and sensational dance artists from Haiti, New Orleans, Cuba and the Bay Area, includes a special family matinee. Grab the kids and head over for storytelling, face painting and more fun at 3 p.m. April 25 at San Francisco’s Dance Mission Theater.
Flute Sweet: The New York singing and storytelling duo of Flute Sweet and Tickletoon are back in the Bay Area this week for performances around the bay. Catch them at the Orinda Library at 10:30 a.m. April 26. Free.
Night Hike: Learn about local wildlife, plants and habitats on a night hike at Pleasanton’s Bernal Creek with city naturalist Eric Nicholas at 6:30 p.m. April 24. Kids under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Details: $11 ($8 for Pleasanton residents).
