My book just arrived today! It is delightful.
Neither of my sons sucked their thumbs and didn’t
want a pacifier. My niece sucked hers way too
long and even got chapped from it…
Whenever I was around her, I would give her positive
comments whenever she could keep her thumb sucking
to a minimum.

I sucked my thumb until I was 7. My parents tried everything including putting tabasco sauce on my thumb which I liked….LOL! Hubby sucked his thumb until he was 6. I have had 4 daughters and only my youngest sucks her thumb. My 4yo daughter sucks her thumb only with her DeeDee (blanket). She is only allowed to have her blanket when she is going to sleep. Since she only sucks her thumb during the night then I am not too worried about it yet. However, in the next year I will start trying to come up with ideas of how to break her of the habit. I’m pretty sure it won’t be easy.

The most important thing in overcoming a bad habit, in my view, is to decide for yourself that you want to stop. And that’s just as much true for kids as it is for adults. That being said, it helps to have some positive reinforcement! Sounds like a cute story.
