Wall-E & More: Don’t miss the last weekend of the Oakland Museum of California’s Pixar exhibit, featuring Woody, Buzz, WALL-E and more. Little ones will enjoy the visuals, of course. Teen artists and parents will be drawn to Saturday’s panel discussion by Pixar artists and art history professor Heather Holian. Catch the Pixar talk from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 8. The exhibit runs through Jan. 9. Tickets: $6-$12, http://museumca.org.

Youthful jazz: Groove to the beat when the Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco, ages 10-18, perform at Berkeley’s La Pena Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 8. Tickets: $10, www.lapena.org/event/1644.

Run, Run, Run: Oakland’s Children’s Fairyland is always a marvelous outing, but this month, their puppeteers are presenting the classic tale of “The Gingerbread Boy” every weekend at 11 a.m., 2 and 4 p.m. Tickets: $8 admission includes rides and entertainment; www.fairyland.org.

CSI, the Recycling Edition: Join Oakland’s Chabot Space and Science Center staff as they go all forensic on you during “CSI Lab: Zero Waste,” an afternoon of green family fun. Watch a screening of “The Story of Stuff,” then explore the best ways to reduce, reuse and recycle from 1-5 p.m. Jan. 8. Free with museum admission; www.chabotspace.org.

Blue Suede Shoes:
We’re not sure what Elvis Presley has to do with conservation, but anything that combines Elvis’ music with outdoor activities is OK by us. Save the Bay and the East Bay Regional Park District are celebrating Elvis’s Birthday by planting native species plant along the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline in Oakland from 9 a.m. to noon on Jan. 8. It’s one of many family-friendly conservation activities scheduled throughout the year. Details: http://www.savesfbay.org/volunteer.

COMING SOON…
Don’t miss the Lindsay Wildlife Museum’s “Wild Night at the Museum!”
gala, a family friendly evening of animal encounters, food tastings, a dessert bar and other surprises. The fun runs from 6-9 p.m. Jan. 29. Adult tix are $50 each and include one children’s admission. Additional children’s tickets cost $10. Details: (925) 627-2951 or visit www.wildlife-museum.org/wildnight.

I want to offer a full throated endorsement of the Pixar exhibit at the Oakland Museum of California. It’s a great exhibit that, in addition to reminding us of the best part of these great films, provides some insight into the impressive work that goes on behind the scenes. Go check it out.

Thanks for these other great suggestions, too!
