TWILIGHT: New Moon Trailer

MTV Movie Awards (AP Photo/Matt Sayles) OK, so I watched the MTV Movie Awards last night, laughed over the antics of Andy Samberg (especially the song medley), roared over Bruno’s entrance, and listened to my lovely teenage daughter shriek every time Twilight anything occurred, including the award for Best Kiss (pictured) and the sneak peek at the first “New Moon” trailer (we’ve got it posted after the jump!). But she took issue with the concluding scene – says that’s not how it looked in her head. OK, “Twilight” experts. Take a peek, then hit comments and tell us, is that how it looked in your head?

PIXAR’s “Up” Wins Raves

MovieWeb – Movie Photos, Videos & More

OK, show of hands – how many of you are planning to see Pixar’s newest, “Up,” this weekend? The reviews have been sensational. Common Sense Media says, “Pixar’s stunning 3-D adventure is an upper for everyone.” The very youngest tots may be alarmed by a thunderstorm sequence, and there’s a sad section in which our grumpy hero’s wife gets sick, but for the 6-and-up crowd, it’s two thumbs up.

And Plugged-in Online’s reviewer says this movie “transcends film. It is a story, and a story in the word’s best, most mythical sense—a narrative that educates and entertains, a fairy tale that can make your heart larger…And it’s a gut-busting hoot to boot.” Children (and grown-ups, including the Plugged-In reviewer) with a fear of heights may find some of the 3-D scenes a tad perilous, but it’s a great family film.

We can’t wait! Plus, our beloved Fentons Creamery figures into the plot. Mmm, “Up” followed by a Black & Tan Sundae… So, is “Up” on your must-see list? What else?

HARRY Potter + Platform 9 3/4 = #1

Celia Baula heads for Hogwarts
We hear from the folks over at the Leaky Cauldron that Warner Bros. is releasing a new trailer for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” tomorrow. So while we wait for that – twiddling our thumbs and thinking about how much we prefer thinking about Hogwarts to, you know, taxes, the economy and other grim topics – let’s talk about Oreos. Seems the cookie company polled 2,000 parents and kids to discover the most beloved movie scene of all time, and the winner? The moment when Harry emerges onto Platform 9 3/4 in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Happy sigh. It even beat out the Mary Poppins chimney sweep dance scene, ET phoning home and the Oompa Loompas.

HARRY Potter Movie Opening 2 Days Early

MovieWeb – Movie Photos, Videos & More

Good news for Harry Potter fans! Not only will the new HP movie, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” open two days earlier than expected – July 15, rather than the 17th – but Bay Areans will have a Hogwarts expert in their own backyard next month. Melissa Anelli, webmaster for The Leaky Cauldron web site and author of “Harry: A History,” will be a featured guest at the Contra Costa County Library’s second annual Reading Festival. Anelli will be doing a Q&A and book signing at the Willow Pass Center, 2748 East Olivera St., Concord on May 3 at 2 p.m. You can also catch her at two Harry Potter conferences – next month’s LeakyCon in Boston and this summer’s Azkatraz in San Francisco.

OK, scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you about the new movie?

Max, Wild Things & Poop

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been a fan of Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are” since I was small and wished I could join the wild rumpus myself. I still wish that, actually. So the big, glorious movie, directed by Spike Jonze, hits theaters next fall, but here’s the trailer and …

if you want to see what would happen if Spike tackled that other classic children’s book, “Everybody Poops,” EW PopWatch can show you. :-)

Hannah Montana Flick – Are You Going?

Miley Cyrus (Kimberly P. Mitchell/Detroit Free Press/MCT) The new Hannah Montana flick just opened, thereby unleashing the frenzy of millions of tweenage girls. Anyone planning to go see it this weekend? We’ve been skimming the reviews – Associated Press’ Christy Lemire says “Resistance is futile.” The movie scored a 2 out of 4 stars in her book but, she says, every teeny bopper in your life is going to want to go. And the Plugged-In Online’s reviewer says the movie won’t reap any acting awards, and he wasn’t exactly thrilled about sitting through it, but “Giggling girls in audiences around the world will see themselves riding next to that handsome young cowpoke. They’ll imagine the fun of pratfalling their way through campy slapstick, and singing and dancing their way to cornpone glee.”

We’re more than a little curious to hear what you thought of it or if you’re going at all. Punch a button on the poll or click “Comments” and dish.

James Bond, Uma Thurman to star in “Percy Jackson”

Pierce Brosnan (Photo by Lionel Hahn/Abaca Press/MCT)Any Rick Riordan/Percy Jackson fans out there? Word is that Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman have signed on to the new movie based on Riordan’s “Lightning Thief,” about a young boy – Percy – who discovers his father is actually a Greek god. Percy and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley – oops, wrong book! (Although this one’s being compared to the Harry Potter saga and the movie studio is certainly hoping that comparison pans out.) Percy and his demigod friends, Grover and Annabeth, embark on a wild adventure to stop a terrible war between the gods. Think Greek mythological characters in Manhattan. And Las Vegas. Fun, huh?

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Brosnan will play the Greek god Chiron, with Thurman as Medusa. Percy’s dad, Poseidon, will be played by Kevin McKidd (who also plays Christina’s battle-scarred love interest on “Grey’s Anatomy” and Lucius Vorenus in HBO’s not-appropriate-for-kids-but-man-it-was-good series “Rome.” Hmm, who else? Ah, Sean Bean (LOTR) is Zeus and Melina Kanakaredes (CSI NY) is Athena. Director? Chris Columbus, of Harry Potter and “Home Alone” fame.

Whew. Man, that was a lot of links. OK, what do you think of the casting? Good? Bad? Mythologically great?
