It fulfills three things: a gold-glove defense center fielder, a hard-nosed gritty player who will give you everything he has everyday, and fills one of the holes in our inconsistent and weak lineup that we have for an offense. He should fit fine into that 5 hole and put up some good numbers that will help us win. With Roberts or Davis at the top playing LF Frandsen at 3B or 2B and batting 2 if we sign a 3B. Then our middle of the order would be strong for what it is with Winn, Molina, and Rowand. I dont know if I heard that but why didnt the Giants propose Sanchez and Lewis or Roberts for OF Hideki Matsui. Matsui would add another piece to our offense. He is much solid thant Roberts offensively and is a pretty good outfielder. But we can keep Roberts for insurance if Matsui gets hurt and Roberts and Rajai Davis and Nate Schierholtz could spill Matsui, Rowand, and Winn. I would say either sign Feliz for 3B or go with Frandsen there and give Ray Durham a chance to rebound and be the everyday 2B. Its his last year under contract. So lets go with it and Ortmeirer and Aurilia could platoon at first. I am content with that. But pretty much we need one more big bat either to fill the hole at 3B or in left field!

He’s the best defensive centerfielder available this winter since, despite the hype, Andruw Jones’ defense fell off along with his offensive output. The Giants have morework to do — but it won’t be with the Yankees, according to ESPN.com. The Yankees turned down a trade proposal for outfielder Hideki Matsui that included Noah Lowry. The Yankees, reportedly asked for Jonathan Sanchez instead of Lowry. That trade is apparently dead. … Fans who gripe that Rowand’s overpaid at $12 million are living in 1997. Jose Guillen got more money than the Giants paid Rowand. The going rate is what the Giants had to pay. The good news is San Francisco didn’t cough up $20 million-plus to sign Japanese outfielder Fukodome. Ichiro only makes the leap from Japan to the big leagues look easy. … Perhaps this will be the year another team panics and over-pays for a Giants pitcher? With pitching so hard to come by, a club has to come to the Giants with a hitter in trade at some point.
