I agree this is a very interesting series between two of the best young teams in either league. Uggla is truly one of the great young players in baseball, but don't forget shortstop Hanley Ramirez. He is fast becoming a bona fide superstar. One of the reasons for the large fluctuations in attendance is the fact that the A's do a lousy job of connecting with their historic past. Say what you want about the Giants, but they do an outstanding job in this area. All Giants' fans know who Mays, McCovey, Cepeda and Marichal are, not to mention Will Clark and Kevin Mitchell. Most young A's fans have no idea who Sal Bando, Joe Rudi, Campy Campaneris or John "Blue Moon" Odom are and couldn't care less. They know the franchise has won some titles, but they know none of the principles involved. Carney Lansford, who was one of the key elements of the '89 championship team, is working for the GIANTS, for crying out loud, a team he never played for. Many of the Giants of the past are gainfully employed by the team. Besides Ray Fosse, what former A's are employed by the Oakland organization? Even young Raider fans are well schooled in the exploits of Ken Stabler, Fred Biletnikoff, George Blanda, Ted Hendricks, et al.

In 3 years time the A's will have a fine MLB team. I will buy a mini plan of maybe 12-15 games, all April-May tickets. I want to be sure to see any good players that develop from this influx before Billy trades them for prospects with potential.

Maybe the A's can copy the Rays methods of recruiting and player development. That is a MLB team. Payroll is half the A's, They have All Star potential at all the skills positions, offensely, and defensely.
The Rays have one of MLB's most exciting #1-5 hitting lineup that is just as good playing long ball as small ball, all everyday players, not one platoon player.

Sarcasm? Yes. They stole our act.
