Looking forward to Friday night's and Sunday's games. I hear it's supposed to be a little cooler in Phoenix by then. I'll pop up to say hello one of those games. I think I'd go with Anderson or maybe Cahill as the 5th starter. Mazzaro sure looked bad yesterday, but one outing doesn't decide it. It's just a gut feeling about the other two.

I hope Duke doesnn't throw a hissy if he is put in the bullpen. As I've said here, I think Duke is fragile and he was an All Star out of the pen. Maybe that's where he can contribute the most.

Glad you're feeling me about the drive to Surprise, Bee ... Before one of the Little Three gets an Opening Day nod, we need to find out which ones will be in the rotation. The way things stand, I see at least one of them making it. Mazzaro and Cahill are both coming off somewhat shaky outings, so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back. They both have big-league ready stuff right now (as does Anderson). I think Eveland's being looked at as an Opening Day possibility simply out of necessity, right? He logged a lot of innings last year and is being counted on as a rotation regular. If Gallagher could put it together consistently, I think he's got the shut-down stuff you'd want in an Opening Day starter ... Hope you enjoy your trip down here next weekend ...

I've made the drive from Phoenix to Surprise for ballgames, two of them nightgames. That drive down the pitch-black country roads to get the the freeway is hair-raising at best. Be happy the A's don't have spring training in Florida. There lots longer rides there. And Surpise is a very nice ballpark.

Are you at all uncomfortable with Dana Eveland as the opening day pitcher? He certainly has been mediocre so far this spring. The A's really don't have an ace of the rotation, now that Duke is out of action. Maybe one of the little three should get the nod.
