Not a whole lot to report leading into this afternoon’s A’s-Mariners game. Jason Giambi is starting at first base (his legs apparently are feeling better) and Eric Chavez is in there at third base. Chavez jammed his right shoulder diving back to first base Friday, but yesterday’s day off was scheduled before that. Bob Geren said Chavez took batting practice this morning and felt good so he’s back in there.
Geren did say Giambi would DH tomorrow against Boston, with Nomar Garciaparra at first base. The A’s want to save Giambi’s legs as much as they can, and the plan was to split his time at first and DH when they signed him in the first place.
Today’s A’s lineup, featuring Rajai Davis in the outfield instead of Travis Buck:
Sweeney RF; Cabrera SS; Giambi 1B; Holliday LF; Cust DH; Chavez 3B; Suzuki C; Ellis 2B; Davis CF; Cahill P
Chavez LF; Gutierrez CF; Griffey RF; Beltre 3B; Branyan 1B; Sweeney DH; Lopez 2B; Johnson C; Cedeno SS; Bedard P
