I went to the River Cats game last Saturday and sat down with James Simmons and Gio Gonzales behind home plate for an inning while they were charting pitches. Two nicer guys you’ll never meet. I am glad that Gio apparently has righted his ship and is pitching well. James is doing well too, which is good to see. I met him a couple of years ago at the Arizona Fall League and have been following his career since then.

I hope you all keep doing farm reports. The future of the Major Leagues is in the minors (duh!) and I think the real baseball is played down on the farm: no overpriced players, fewer big egos, reasonable cost to see good baseball, etc.

What will the A’s do with all these young pitchers? I hope the answer is not to trade them, but there is some precedence for that.

Doolittle is still on the DL with tendinitis in his left knee. Should be back within a couple of weeks.
