Dear Bob,

Nice emotion, but you are wrong about Hairston. He is not a free agent at the end of the year. A’s control him for a couple more years in arbitration. He did hit 17 hrs as a part-time player last year — I’d say that’s decent power. Better than all their other OFers (Cust doesn’t count).

Not that I support the Harden trade, because I didn’t then and I don’t necessarily agree with the logic now, but I am not sure Harden would have been as successful here as he has been with the Cubs. By the end of his time here, he seemed so unhappy with the organization–based on comments to the press–that I don’t think he would have been productive for the A’s, or even healthy for the A’s for that matter. Both Blanton and Harden seem to be happier and therefore more productive on their new teams.

Just a theory.

In actuality in exchange for Harden/Gaudin the A’s still have Hairston, Donaldson, Wimbley and Patterson.

say what? get hairston who is not a power hitter AND OVER A YEAR LATER? besides hairston’s contract ends after this season and he becomes a free agent. patterson is not a big leaguer. harden on sunday threw 6 innings for the cubs allowing 1 hit, striking out 8 in an easy win.

Incomplete argument. You can’t discount that the A’s used Gallager/Murton to aquire Hairston and Wimbley. In actuality in exchange for Harden/Gaudin the A’s still have Hairston, Donaldson, Wimbley and Patterson.

I wasn’t impressed with Sean Galleger before or after the trade. he only had 1 good outing that I can think of. Billy missed the ball with this one, that’s for sure.

need a new gm–new a new manager- need a new sense of direction because beane has completely lost his compass!

this now is almost like an expansion team starting from scratch and beane made it this way.

Man, how quickly the A’s went from Playoff contenders to Irrelevant.

I can’t see any potential stars in this team.
from broken down players (over the hill) – Chavez, Nomar, Giambi
from average to nothing special -sweeney, cust,ellis,Crosby.
young busts – Buck, Barton or any money ball players
5 young SP – only anderson looks good with promise and maybe cahill, mazarro and outman?
i guess only kurt Z is the best player but not all-star
