The Cust deal is horrible: too much money for not enough production, especially in situations where he has to get a hit. Would rather have had Powell or Chris Carter.

I hate the Cust move like the rest of you, but his signing has to be a backup plan, period.

What I don’t get about this is that bringing back Cust limits the opportunities for Landon Powell. If you take his numbers and extrapolate them for the AB’s Cust got he will put up similar, if not better numbers. He hit 3 homers and drove in 30 in 140AB’s last year. Cust hit 25 and drove in 70 in 513AB’s. Seems to me the A’s could have saved $2.65, went with Powell, and will probably get similar results. Thoughts?

They should have went out and got Vlad for DH cust is horrible he strikes out 180 plus times a year. If the a’s went and grabbed Tejada and another veteran starting pitcher they might have a shot which i highly doubt to hold on till july and pick up a power hitter and out right release cust

The only way this works is if they sign Tejada and Chavez can actually play 3rd base. There’s little power in the outfield (unless Hairston works his way into the line up), so they need the power at DH and the infield. Tejada is now the missing piece to the puzzle…let’s see what happens.
