I think you have to keep in mind that Beane has said from the beginning of the house cleaning, essentially the Haren trade, that the A's want to get younger and are looking to contend in 2011. Going out and getting Kouzmanoff was good and Anderson looks to be a solid #2, maybe even a 1, at the big league level. Carter is all that, but unfortunately for him the Coliseum isn't. I think he'll hit at the big league level, but balls seem to go get lost in Oakland and while I think he'll hit for power, I don't expect his minor league #'s to translate to the big leagues. Anyone think IF Chavez can come back and play 1st of if Cust can handle it they move Barton/Buck and let Carter season in AAA and come up late August or next year?

Even though only 2 of 6 are left from the haren deal, only eveland is the one that didnt end up useful in following trades. Lets be honest, a couple yrs ago smith/eveland exceeded expectations and looked to be solid pitchers. Its still possibly but both have issues with control and little margin for error. Essentially if carter, anderson, taylor are as good as we think, it will be a worthwhile haren deal. Plus add in asolid 3b in Kouzmanoff. Its worked out better than the harden deal who has donaldson, patterson (out of options),and wimberly left (from murton deal). Cubs were so worried about harden's health that they didnt offer him arby. Now A's have harden part II in ben sheets 2 yrs later.

player to be named later or cash considerations?
i'd say straight cash homey...

now, knowing our luck, watch doughboy dana suddenly discover his inner david wells next year.

oh, and yes, good solid deal. i'd venture to guess the twins would happily take just one guy from the anderson/carter/gonzalez, taylor etc deal. that santana trade with the mets isn't exactly looking terribly fruitful for them two years out.
