Andrew Bailey is back in the A’s clubhouse after last night’s rehab appearance with Triple-A Sacramento (2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 K, 18 pitches). The results weren’t great, but manager Bob Geren said initial reports are Bailey came out of it feeling well. The team is waiting to see how Bailey continues to feel through the night. There’s a chance he could be activated tomorrow. If not, perhaps Tuesday for the road trip opener at Cleveland.
Tonight’s lineups …
A’s — Crisp CF, Barton 1B, Suzuki C, Kouzmanoff 3B, Ellis 2B, Davis LF, Cust DH, Tolleson SS, Buck RF; Anderson LHP.
Rays — Upton CF, Bartlett SS, Crawford LF, Longoria 3B, Pena 1B, Zobrist RF, Aybar DH, Rodriguez 2B, Shoppach C; Price LHP.
It’s a bit of a head-scratcher not to see Cliff Pennington in the lineup considering he’s played a major role in the A’s past three victories. Steve Tolleson — who can play second base, third and shortstop — has done well in his limited playing time, so it’s understandable for Geren to want to get him in and give the everyday infielders a rest. It’s August, after all. But Pennington’s got to have some confidence rolling right now, so why not stick with him?

Most of his better hitting stats this year has been as a left handed hitter. Against Price he would have batted right handed
