Marc, Is slugging % that important for a hitter in the 2 spot? I thought Ave and OBP would be the best indicator to move the leadoff over and set the table for the sluggers behind him. Granted Barton’s dismal Ave is well behind the league average of .260, but your conclusion of dumping Barton doesn’t jive with me. Yes, his .320 OBP is down from .390 last year, but 50 games is not a good sample size of declaring a player sucks. The blame really falls on Slow Geren who should have given someone else the opportunity at the 2nd spot last month.

Hi Joe, I read the article on Barton. I for one keep wondering WHY he is still batting 2nd.
Then I read the quote from Geren when asked if he has considered moving Barton down in the order.” Yeah I have (But) there was a stretch there in the last three, four, five days where he hit the ball pretty good and had nothing to show for it.”
WOW, am I missing something, because having nothing to show for it (All year I mght add)does not justify shit in my book.

Why is Barton even on the team? Third worst slugging % in MLB, enough already. Trade that turd to another stupid team or release him. Isn’t the definition of INSANITY doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? The sample size for many of these hitters is very large, and it is time for change.
