The A’s and Red Sox returned to the field, played one inning and then it started pouring again. So a second rain delay just began in the eighth. This is starting to get silly. Obviously, they want to try and get this first game completed in its entirety. What’s in store for the scheduled second game is anybody’s guess. But word in the press box was that they would like to try to play it tonight. That seems like a fantasy at this point. It’s absolutely pouring now, with thunder and lightning adding to the fun. Even if it does stop, you have to wonder what condition the field will be in.
It’s the umpires’ call on whether to continue this game, and whether to play the second.
I just heard Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” playing over the PA. Are they trying to tell us something?
