I’m sorry to see Wuertz go, but it was the right thing to do. Ever since his breakout season in 2009, he hasn’t lived up to his $5+ million contract. I’m not sure he was taking it easy, he had some inhuries, etc., but he never regained his dominant stuff, and I’m sure he’s just a frustrated about that as are we. Sure, it’s disruptive to his family life, but that’s the nature of baseball. Wives sign on to that expectation when they marry a ballplayer.

I saw Susan Slusser on Comcast…and I had a long post in mind,but to say she’s biased and pro Beane who can do no wrong in her eyes is an understatment.
Beane will never get a discouraging word said about him on Comcast-no “He trades away the A’s best players” even from Greg Papa who does say that on 95.7..on TV ,on Comcast, he and Susan have a “That silly man Beane” attitude as their big criticism-with happy smiles. Yeck.

I babysit for Michael Wuertz and his wife Megan. I live in Walnut Creek and their house was in San Ramon. They now have to stop coming here because he was released… Im not happy about this at all , neither is his wife, him, or anybody who personally knows him.

If Josh goes…then the protesters need to occupy the “O”. Ironic that they can then use the A’s claimed dilapidated toilets and hang “occupied” signs at every stall…

Hey JP,

Cedric Hunter (the OF they got in the trade) joined the 40-man roster but Evan Scribner (a reliever)was on the Padres’ 60-day DL with a torn lat muscle at the time of the trade. He transfers to the A’s 60-day DL and therefore does not take up a 40-man spot yet. Scribner has been throwing in Arizona, and I was told he’s a couple weeks away from being 100 percent healthy.

Hunter also has been hurt — a groin injury ended his season in July. But he took part in the Padres’ fall instructional league and was OK during that time.

With the extra guys they claimed from the Padres, who got bumped from the 40-man roster to make room? Releasing Wuertz freed up one spot, but they needed another; roster’s currently at 41. Anyone know who it was?

I wonder if Susan Slusser-and Tim Kawakami,who also buys into Beane’s version of everything,notice that when the Raiders were losers,nobody came to see them. When they win? They sell out..the Coloseum. You think there is a correlation between winning and attendence? I do.

Wertz might as well have said “Yeah,I guess when they gave me 5 and a quarter million,I sort of took it easy”…”And now that I need a contract I’m going to play hard for another big contract drive in 2013″.
Isn’t it the story of the pro ahlete nowadays? Sure has been the Huff and Ross story …
