Ben Enos filling in for Joe Stiglich
Greetings from the Coliseum, where fans have started to file in and the A’s are getting set for the finale of a four-game set with the Bronx Bombers. The sun is out, it’s going to be warm, and it just generally looks like one of those baseball days you could put on a postcard.
As you would imagine, things remain loose in the A’s camp as they go for the sweep today. The Yankees were out early for some batting practice, and they send ace CC Sabathia to the mound. Bartolo Colon goes for the A’s.
Not a ton to report on the news front before the game. Brett Anderson said it was good to get back on the mound for Single-A Stockton yesterday, saying he felt good aside from some normal pitching soreness. He threw two innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. Anderson said he’s not worried about results at this point, and said it was good to get over the hump where he feels like a pitcher now more than a rehabber.
Only other bit of injury news is that Brandon McCarthy will continue his comeback from shoulder soreness with a three-inning simulated game in Arizona on Wednesday.
Coco Crisp gets a normal day off today, his first since coming back at the beginning of the homestand. Yoenis Cespedes moves to center field and Seth Smith starts in left. Chris Carter gets the call at first with the lefty Sabathia on the mound. Also of note, Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter gets the day off.
I will say it looks like we’re in for a big crowd today. Plenty of fans are here early and in their seats. The tailgate contingent also looked hearty when I drove in.
