Sizemore’s return to A’s could be compelling story

PHOENIX – One of the most interesting stories of the spring will start up today when the A’s give Scott Sizemore his first start of the season at second base.

Sizemore hasn’t played in the field since the final weeks of the 2011 season thanks to an ACL injury suffered in the first day of spring training camp last year.

Since then, John Donaldson has taken over at third base for Oakland, but Sizemore will get a shot to win the job at second base, which was his primary position until the A’s had an opening at third two years ago.

He served as the DH in the Cactus League opener Saturday.

“I wanted to break him in as the DH,’’ manager Bob Melvin said. “And he had really good at-bats. It didn’t look like he had any ill effects.’’
