Felix pitches today, but not against A’s

The A’s, who see Seattle ace Felix Hernadnez often enough as it is, won’t see him today.

Hernandez is scheduled to pitch, but with the Mariners having a split-squad games, Seattle manager Eric Wedge opted to send the right-hander to Surprise, Ariz. to face the Royals.

It’s nothing that any other manager wouldn’t do. When given a choice, managers will almost always go out of their way to make sure their top starting pitchers don’t face inter-divisional foes.

Oakland will see Hernandez soon enough. It’s expected he’ll be the opening day starter for the Mariners when they come calling in Oakland on April 1.

Last year, the A’s saw Hernandez in two of their first four games and lost both, although Hernandez got the win in only one of those.
