PREGAME NOTES: A’s lineup, plus injury upates on Crisp, Young and Lowrie

Hey, everyone. It’s Dan Brown (@mercbrownie) filling in for John Hickey.

First, a quick injury roundup because the A’s 19-inning victory on Monday night took its toll.

Outfielders Coco Crisp (hamstring) and Chris Young (quadriceps) are out of the lineup against the Angels tonight and could be out a few days. Manager Bob Melvin said the A’s are in wait-and-see mode on both players with the hope that they can avoid the disabled list.

Melvin wouldn’t say whether either outfielder would be available off the bench tonight, but Crisp, in particular, would be a real long shot.

Jed Lowrie (stiff neck) is also out tonight, but Melvin played down the severity of the shortstop’s status. Melvin said he gave Lowrie the day off mostly as a precaution and expected him to be back, perhaps by Wednesday. (For what it’s worth, the A’s have a day off Thursday).

The only roster move today involved the pitching staff. The A’s recalled reliever Evan Scribner from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned Dan Straily to Sacramento.

Scribner could come in handy considering the A’s overworked bullpen. He said he got a text from the A’s at2:30 a.m.last night with a message that said, “Call when you wake up.”

I’ll post more on Scribner – and the rest of a wacky night – in another post.

For now, here are tonight’s lineups.
