Cal is ranked No. 11 in Street & Smith’s 2007 preseason poll. The Bears now are ranked anywhere between ninth and 20th in a handful of different preseason publications.

Jon, what do you rank them? How do you think they’ll do this season?

Build-a-bear, I’m not a voter but I think somewhere between Nos. 10 and 15 is about right. I also definitely think Cal is a solid No. 2 in the Pac-10 behind USC.
And Anonymous, hopefully I can fill Heater’s shoes. I know he was good. There’s not a whole lot going on right now, but once we get closer to the season I think you’ll be satisfied with the coverage.

I would rank them # 1 Pre-season because preseason rankings are a joke and Cal is undeafeated so far in 2007, therefore they should be ranked accordingly. Once they beat Tennessee on Sept.1st, they will be ranked in the top 5.

I like the sound of that, Jonathan! You sound like you are going to rock!

Great! Looking forward to reading your material Jon. Should be an exciting season to post about. Best of luck and Go Bears!

Last year, we got a lot of pre-season respect because of the defense (specifically w/ hughes and mixon listed as starters) — I’d venture to say that our defense would be ranked a bit lower due to the loss of “star power”, so these high pre-season polls must reflect the belief that Cal’s offense will be unstoppable. (which sounds about right)
Bob Gregory has always fielded good/great defenses, so I have no worries on that side of the ball.
Cal will be playing on New Year’s day.
