The system is designed so that all losses are not created equal. In other words, Florida’s season is not over because they lost to 2 quality teams in Auburn and LSU while Cal’s is over (and should be) because the Bears lost to 2 unranked foes (who were blown out by Utah, Notre Dame, and Cincy). If Cal had gone 10-2 with losses to Oregon and USC, they would still be in BCS contention; as it is, they’re Sun Bowl or Vegas Bowl-bound and deservingly so. We’re just a seriously flawed team with some very stubborn playcallers. Even if we did make a playoff, our weaknesses would just get exposed on a national scene by any very good team, and the embarrassment might be even more profound.
