Greetings from The Farm

Good afternoon, everyone. Gonna be a cold one out here this afternoon. Perfect football weather. Stanford’s new stadiums is beautiful. I’ve been here once before, when the  stadium was first completed and the school gave the media a tour before the start of last season. It’s hard to believe it’s even the same stadium, with the track now gone and the smaller seating capacity right on top of the field.

This is my first Big Game as Cal’s beat writer, so I’m definitely looknig forward to it. But I’ve been to the Big Game before in other capacities and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and the intensity. Stanford has won just once here in its new digs since the stadium opened last year. The Bears are going to try to keep it that way.

The other big game to watch today is Arizona-Arizona State, which kicks off about an hour after this one. I’m assuming USC is going to go on to beat UCLA (yes, I’m really going out on a limb, I know). The Arizona-Arizona State game will be the difference between the Emerald Bowl, the Armed Forces Bowl, or no bowl at all (depending on how Cal fares).

I’ll check back a little closer to kickoff.
