Cali, still no update on Best’s injury. Obviously, there is some concern, but I think the team is cautiously optimistic. They’re just taking things really slow with him. I haven’t seen too much of Vereen’s pass-catching ability so it’s hard for me to answer that. As far as DeCoud goes, a few candidates are Brett Johnson, D.J. Campbell or perhaps a newcomer.
Big D, spring ball begins around the middle of March.
Big, I think Cameron Morrah is a tight end all the way. He needs to improve his blocking, but he’s going to be a big-time tight end one day.
San Diego, to reiterate for DeCoud’s spot — perhaps Johnson, Campbell, etc. I don’t think Hicks is a free safety, maybe Ezeff. It certainly would solve the logjam at rover to split them up. I haven’t talked to Jahvid since near the end of the season, and he seemed upbeat. Of course, some time has passed sincde then. But he seemed to be coping with the injury very well.

CalAlum97 and Ricardo, out of respect for each other, keep in mind that regardless if we agree as to a player’s character or merits as a human being, the coaching staff will be the ones to decide whether the kid is a risk, fits in with the program, etc.

Though I may have disagreed with some of Tedford’s play calling during the season, I do respect the way that he molds his players into young adults. If you believe, like I do, that Tedford’s values are in line with those of the Berkeley community, then you’ll rest assured that he and the other coaches will evaluate Boateng as they do every other player, and will make a decision in line with the core values of our community.

Hey Ricardo, welcome to the forum d u m b a s s! Actually, you don’t know me from Jack. And because you don’t know me, how in the h e l l would you know if I’ve done something “stupid” in my life? You don’t know that I’ve never been in trouble with the law, never stabbed anybody, or done anything “stupid” on the level of breaking and entering. As a matter of fact, I was a boy scout in my youth and played high school and JC football without ever getting into trouble. All that and I grew up in San Pablo, where it would have been real easy for me to do so. So yeah, I tend to think that people involved in breaking and entering are unsavory, have questionable morals, and may not fit in with the clean-run Cal program. And you know what, that’s my opinion and I’m free to state it freakin board-Nazi!

And regarding your completely inane comment about whether, “we want a fan like you who would see us without our best prospect at WR…” to that I’d say, do we want a fan like you who would sacrifice Cal’s longstanding tradition of recruiting good, honest, intelligent men just to recruit U$C and Miami type thugs to win-at-all-costs? I’d bet that the majority of alumni would agree with me that no, we don’t want that. Then we become a U$C program by sacrificing the high ground to win. I can only assume that your grunt of a low-brow post shows that you are not an alumnus of our great school and, hence, have no idea how much we value the integrity of our recruiting. Yeah, I’d definitely sacrifice a star thug athelete to maintain our integrity. If you wouldn’t, you’re the one who should be keeping his mouth closed and not attending Cal games…you’re better suited to be an $C fan.

JO…thanks for all of the great information. I have a couple concerns about the ’08 Bears and was hoping to get your thoughts. First of all, who do you think will replace Decoud? Ezeff? Campbell?…maybe a surprise?

I was also wondering if you’ve spoken to Jahvid Best? I imagine that he’s never been faced with a serious injury and wanted to get some insight on his psyche? The road to recovery can play tricks on the mind as well as the body.

What are the possibilities that Cameron Morrah could be a wide reciver and have Skylar Curran as the starter TE. The reason i’m asking this is because he looked good running routes and he catches the ball good. He will be a big target. Or could Spencer Ladner be the next TE.

What’s the latest on jahvid best; is there a serious reason to worry? On Shane Vereen, how is his pass catching ability, and would Tedford consider him as a slot receiver? Who is the likely candidate for Decoud’s spot?

First of all, thanks to JO for putting this together and taking the time to answer our questions in detail. This was a very interesting read indeed!

Ricky, I googled Nyan Boateng and found this article about him. Not sure how accurate it is, but it sounds like he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house by breaking down the door. Oh, and she stabbed him in the leg prior to that. Nice, huh? I wonder whether we really want this kind of kid on our team?
