Cal on TV

By Jonathan Okanes
Friday, May 2nd, 2008 at 3:43 pm in off-season stuff.

The Pac-10 announced today that Cal’s season-opener against Michigan State on Aug. 30 and its Nov. 8 game at USC will be televised by ABC and kick off at 5 p.m.

The disappointing second half of the Bears’ 2007 season didn’t seem to dissuade ABC from putting them on prime time. This is no different than last season, when Cal also had two games selected for the 5 p.m. time slot during the spring — the season-opener against Tennessee and the game against USC.

Other TV information and kickoff times will be announced in the coming months. The Bears could still be on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 a handful of other times when the network selects games in its six-day and 12-day window.

JO – Is rugby a fully sanctioned NCAA sport or is it a club sport?

  • Chingon

    thats awesome,primetime baby.

  • Big D

Cool! now I don’t have to go to U$C and sit 50 yards behind and to the side of the endzone and listen to all those Ahole duche bag punks with their peace sign fingers, annoying band (MUTE Button!), and that re-ta-rd-ed dude in the aluminium foil armor and that poor abused horse. Thanks ABC!

“The Pac-10 announced today that Cal’s season-opener against Michigan State on Aug. 30 and its Nov. 8 game at USC will be televised by ABC and kick off at 5 p.m.”

Quite a risk for ABC. Would you want to preannounce a game when one of the teams last year had the greatest collapse in college football history. Of course viewers natinwide will watch USC play anybody and that is just about what this game is about.

  • Montezuma’s Revenge

I agree. That home loss to a 41 point underdog who started a QB with very little experience was a great collapse. Very risky indeed.

JO – I DEMAND THAT THIS POST BE DELETED IMMEDIATELY!

NO TROLL ZONE…DON’T FEED THE TROLL!

  • CalAlum97

Nice! But ABC has pretty bad HD, especially when compared with ESPN. I love watching the Bears on ESPN HD, almost like being there. Maybe ABC (or Comcast, whomever is responsible) will step-up the signal or compression rate, etc.

  • Iamalcindor

The only reason Berkley in on ABC (and I bet MSU game will be regional) is resurgence of MSU and nationwide attention to USC. No one cares about the pathetic program in Berkley that hasn’t been to Rose Bowl in nearly 50 years.

  • Cnation

Good to know about the HD, thanks JO. Really look forward to seeing some games played.

Wow. Had a rough life? Not sure I see the point in your spreading your grammatically questionable hate speech on this web site. You do yourself and the “university” you represent a disservice by posting your verbal diarrhea here. I suspect that U$C would prefer to have a representative who
    a) Has manners,
    b) Can spell,
    c) Demonstrates at least a modicum of sportsmanship

Having attended both Cal and $C, it is behavior like yours that prompted me to leave SoCal for NorCal as quickly as I could. Your time might be better spent on a U$C fan site.
    Respectfully,

  • Big D

    Amen Ricky.

  • bowlbasaur

nice, that means the bears will wear the highlighters vs msu and that gurantees a win

uuh! where is SC on Rugby?
The Bear are champions 24 out of 29 consecutive years. And, they took the crown more that any other University. They again the champion of 2008.
    Congrad!

    Go Bears! Beat SC.

    Oh, one more thing.
Cal Splashed U$C for the crown on Water Polo last meet in 2007. Congrad

GO Bears! Splashed, Squashed, and Smashed the Troy.

Rugby has a salary cap which makes it difficult for USC to field a team.

  • MemorialSectionHH

i’m not sure what it worse, a lame troll or those that can’t ignore them. in the end they are the same because they can’t control themselves.

    this forum stinks of amateurs.

    adios.

  • CalAlum97

Memorial is right, why do you guys engage the TROLL? Yes, I was once like you but learned that feeding IT just makes IT stronger. IT only has the power you give IT. No response = no power. Memorial, stick around for the season, the boards don’t really get this way, just the blogs.

  • toparchitect

Well! He lied about U$C passed Cal on academic. Here is the FACT:

Cal Ranked #3 Worldwide, and U$C is #50, and is going down.

    Go Bears!

  • toparchitect

By the way, Cal Rank #1 Public University.

    Go Bears!

  • Capitaine

I’m just testing comments here, but I’m glad that in the event I can’t attend the game, I can watch it on TV.
