–Apparently, MIchigan State feels the opener against Cal will go a long way in setting the course for it sseason.
–ESPN.com’s Bruce Feldman picks his 10 most indispensable players across the country. Cal center Alex Mack is ranked No. 7. Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer comes in at No. 10.

PAC-10 Preview on ESPNU Thursday at 3:30 PM followed by replay of 2007 CAL/USC game at 4:00. Couldn’t they show the Oregon game instead?
