Never too late for some weekend reading:
–Former Cal running back Justin Forsett is sure making a case to make the Seattle Seahawks roster
–The L.A. Times paid a visit to the Bay Area, and has a look at Cal.
–It looks like former Cal receiver Lavelle Hawkins will sit out the Tennessee Titans’ next preseason game because of the sprained ankle he suffered on Friday against the Raiders. The injury came after Hawkins hauled in a 51-yard touchdown catch.

What are you hearing about Stanford’s team this year. Will they be able to repeat their surprising season from last year? I know they surprised us. How about up north at Washington? Is their running game coming together and will it be as lethal as it was toward the end of the year?

Stanford will play in national championship and Washington will play in Rose Bowl. USC will be 0-12.

Forsett is doing great in Seattle. If anything happens to their starting RB, Forsett will be the first one to replace him.

Here are the comments from D. Dodds…
7. California: The Bears need to recover from the epic 1-6 meltdown to close ‘07. Try to remember Cal was once the No. 2 team in the country. Then Kevin “Throw The Damn Ball” Riley lost the Oregon State game. Riley is in a battle for the starting job with veteran Nate Longshore. Coach Jeff Tedford gave up play-calling duties, handing them over to new offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti. Which way you going, Bears?

Did anyone watch the PAC-10 preview show on ESPNU? Two of the four panelists chose Cal as their choice to challenge USC for the conference championship. The other two split between ASU and Oregon.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I think Cal will finish closer to 2nd place than 7th place as in the article povided by our resident troll. The general concensus is a 4th place finish behind ASU and Oregon, but I think we will beat the Duckies here and will finish 3rd behind USC and ASU. If USC goes to BCS a Bowl game as expected, then ASU goes to the Rose Bowl and we Holiday in San Diego which wouldn’t be so bad in a transitional year. Then watch out for us in 2009!

Three ex-Bears scored TD’s in NFL pre-season games over the weekend. Forsett on a 10 yard run, Hawkins on a 51 yard reception, and Byron Storer on a 2 yard catch. J.J. Arrington had a 76 yard kickoff return and Adimchinobe Echemandu had a 72 yard run. None of counts for anything, of course, but quite a few nice performances nonetheless.
J.O., is there any possibility the Times could keep track of how our Bears in the NFL are doing every week? I usually check out all the box scores for that info but a lot of others who aren’t so inclined might still be interested in having that information.

So Dennis Dodds thinks Cal will finish behind UCLA, Oregon State and Aizona? What does he know? Two of the four panelists on the ESPNU PAC-10 Preview show chose Cal to finish second in the conference. The other two split between ASU and Oregon.
