So long for now

I need to start working on my postgame duties, so I won’t be checking back in until after I have filed my stories for tomorrow’s paper. So long until then…

JO - can you please ask Cignetti why the playcalling was particularly conservative, especially in the 4th quarter? All the high percentage short-passes, screens, ptiches to Vereen to spread out the d, slow down the pass rush, and lessen the pressure on Longshore on 3rd downs were non-existent, which led to the disappearance of the running game in my opinion.

    JO-

Can you tell us about the call on the blocked field goal and then the subsequent “push” on ASU’s TD. Outstanding defensive effort today!

    Go Bears!

    Hey JO,

what do you think of the 2nd half offensive playcalling (after the 3rd quarter TD)? Cal is too conservative and lacks killer instinct (its been this way for awhile now). The playcalling kept ASU in the game. Thank goodness for our Defense and Anger’s punts.Cal could have had a much bigger win.

I honestly think they didn’t want Longshore to get the jitters and start throwing INTs, especially deep in their own territory.

Today was about building back up Longshore’s confidence and getting him to think more on his feet without rushing things. ASU probably picked up on that the second half which resulted in the weak rushing performance the second half.

BTW, anyone know why we didn’t see Slocum today? That was a bit of a surprise.
